Course Description

Payroll and benefits today would have been unrecognizable a century ago. A direct deposit wasn’t even a thing your grandpa could do, and your parents were skeptical about it when it was introduced. Yet, tons of today’s workers haven’t known anything else. Payroll taxes and compliance have changed wildly since World War II. The benefits packages that are common in the United States today were unheard of a generation ago. In this course, we will look at how payroll and benefits have changed over the past 100 years and explore the senseless things that exist in today’s payroll environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize how payroll in the United States has changed over the years

  • Contrast the benefits that employers offered in the past to the benefits that are offered today

  • Identify the forces behind the changes we’ve seen in payroll and benefits over time
